We had a terrific Tuesday today! The kiddos enjoyed five
different mystery readers, we practiced being safe in case of a tornado,
practice subtraction with a peer, and enjoyed lunch with specials guests at our
Munch & Read celebration. Lots of pictures from today, be sure to scroll to the bottom to see pictures from Munch and Read.
Tomorrow is Book Character Day. I can't wait to see wonderful costumes to represent their favorite book character! :)
Mystery
Readers
Today we had
another opportunity to listen to different mystery readers read a variety of
fun books! Our day started off with Cal's mom & dad (Mr. & Mrs.
Goeckler) reading Berenstain
Bears Go on a Picnic. This is book that Cal's dad had when he was a
child & that Cal now has! After Cal's dad finished reading the book
Cal told riddles out of another book. You should ask your kiddo if s/he
remembers one of the riddles!
Our second mystery
reader was Adam's dad (Dr. Link). Dr. Link read Owen and Mzee, a nonfiction book about a hippo and a
tortoise becoming friends. As he read, the class had a discussion about
the importance of text features.
Mrs. Tutt
(previous 5th grade teacher & current Fellows Mentor) was our third mystery
reader. She read a funny book Unicorn
Thinks He's Pretty Great (this
is the same author of Ballet Cat).
Ms. Hackman's mom
came into town from St. Louis to be our fourth mystery reader! She Big Dog, a book about a golden
retriever. She chose this book because the dog in the book looks a lot
like Ms. Hackman's dog! Mrs. Hackman even brought in dog bone Rice
Krispie treats for a snack!
Our last mystery
reader of the day was Mrs. Rhonda from the office. She read a funny book
called Don't Invite a Dinosaur
to Dinner.
Before lunch the
kiddos chose their favorite book from all the books that were read. They
wrote down their opinion and supported their opinion with three specific
reasons.
Tornado
Drill
The kiddos came in
talking about the tornado warning that occurred last night. I am super
glad that everyone was safe!! Today was our statewide tornado drill.
We practiced today what we would do in case of an inclement weather
situation. The kiddos did an amazing job quickly getting in line, walking
to the Media Center, getting in their severe weather positions, and being quiet.
We got a compliment from a fourth grade teacher on how well our second
graders did!!
Munch &
Read
WOW!!!! What
a an AMAZING turn out that we had for our Read Week Munch & Read
celebration! We celebrated the love of reading with eating lunch with
special guests and reading. Students shared their favorite books with
guests and even their own books that they wrote. It was a wonderful time!
Have a fabulous evening!
Mrs. Ross and Ms. Hackmann
