We had a great week! The students are already getting excited for Winter Break, but they did a great job being learners this week.
Math
We started working with money this week. The students identified the coins and then started to count them. If you have a few extra minutes this weekend, have your child some coins and let them count them for you. Next week, we will continue to work on counting money and play some games to review counting money.
Reading
This week, we focused on the Table of Contents and Headings and how they help us as readers. The students were able to create their own headings based on what they read and also predict what they would read based on the heading. Next week, we will work on the glossary and how it helps s as a reader. If you have some nonfiction books at home, let your student look through them and show you some of the text features they have learned.
Writing
We are working on a secret project in writing at the moment. All I can tell you is that it is an informational ABC book. :)
Science
Since the students had so many questions about dinosaurs after we went to the planetarium, we have decided to have a dinosaur and fossil unit. Today we learned about you can look at a dinosaur's teeth to determine what they ate. Next week, we will look at different ways fossils are formed.
Follow the blog! :)
If you aren't getting email reminders for blog updates, please do so! This will allow you to get an email every time I update the blog.
Winter Weather
The students have done as awesome job being bundled up for the colder weather this week. Please continue to send them with a winter coat, gloves and a hat.
New Pictures!
I added some pictures from Makers Space today. They are under the "Pictures" tab.
Winter Party
Our Winter Party will be on Friday, December 18 at 1:45 p.m. We will have the All School Sing Along before the parties starting at 1:00 p.m.
Math and Science Club
Ms. Mottaz is sponsoring a 2nd grade Math and Science Club. The permission slip will be coming home on Monday. There are limited spots, so if your student is interested, please return the permission slip as soon as possible.
Miss Rottjakob
We will be having a student teacher after Winter Break. Her name is Katherine Rottjakob. She will be sending home an introduction letter when we get back from break. She has been in our classroom this week and the students really enjoy working with her!
Have a fabulous weekend!
